In November 2023, one of the internet's most iconic platforms quietly shut down. Omegle, the random video chat website that connected millions of strangers since 2009, posted a farewell message and went dark forever.
The founder, Leif K-Brooks, cited overwhelming legal pressure and the impossibility of moderating a platform of that scale. A lawsuit involving child exploitation content resulted in a $22 million settlement, and the legal costs became unsustainable.
For millions of users around the world, the shutdown left a void. Where do you go when you want to meet a random stranger online?
That is exactly why we built OmegleLite.
OmegleLite is a free, anonymous random chat platform that lets you video chat, voice chat, and text chat with strangers from anywhere in the world. No sign up, no accounts, no tracking.
We learned from what happened to Omegle. We built OmegleLite with safety at its core — a report system, strict community guidelines, and a commitment to keeping minors off the platform.
The random chat experience is not dead. It just needed a fresh start. Try OmegleLite today and meet someone new.
